GMC Repair: GMC Suburban compressor replacement, gmc suburban, pressure gauge

Question
I have a hole in my compressor.  Actually, its been there for at least 2 years.  I had it recharged 2 years ago and it ran out last week.  I had it recharged and converted to R-134a.  This charge only lasted 2 days.  I tried to recharge it today, but the pressure gauge is showing about 125 psi.  Now that it's a R134 system, can I replace the compressor without special certification?  It looks like a pretty easy job.

Answer
Yes you can replace it without a certification if it is R-134a, however you need to have the freon recovered from the system. It is illegal to open an A/C system and discharge freon into the atmosphere, but you can recharge it yourself with freon from your local parts store.
