Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): HONDA 1011 REAR RIDER, honda 1011, hydrostatic drive

Question
Thanks for your help. I have a Honda 1011 Rear Engine Rider with Hydrostatic Drive.  The starter begun to make noise when starting. This noise is like the noise the starter makes when you accidentally engage it with the motor running.  Any ideas? Can the starter be rebuilt?

Sounds like the Bendix gear is bad that is the gear that starts the engine it is not retracting.
You will have to remove it and install a new Bendix gear. There should be a clip holding the gear on, remove the cover and look at the top of the starter gear.We can get you one if you provide us with the model# serial # and any other numbers on the engine.
