GMC Repair: Radiator system, radiator system, gm vehicle

Question
I want to flush my radiator. Do I loosen the drain plug, take off the cap and put a hose in the top and run the car for awhile? will this open the thermostat and drain from the engine block also? Thanx

Answer
Yes, you just open the drain plug and take the cap off to drain the system, but I recommend that you buy a flush checmical from your local parts store and follow the instructions it gives. Also please be careful that you use the correct coolant, 1995 and older GM vehicles use green coolant and some 1995 and all 1996 and newer GM vehicle require DEXCOOL orange coolant. It can cause major porblems if they are mixed, and if you have already mixed them I recommed that you flush the system twice before refilling it.
