GMC Repair: Buick engine stalls upon key release, buick engine, buick dealer

Question
My mother's 94 Buick LeSabre V6 had a dead battery. I removed, tested, and replaced the battery the same day. The engine would turn over and fire once, then immediately die before the key was released. I had it towed to the Buick dealer, who said the ignition key cylinder and key needed replacing.  After a couple of days, he called and said those parts were not at fault, but since he had already replaced them, he would not charge for them, but...  the computer needed replacing, at a cost of about $400.00.
In addition, I would only get one key with the car, and could buy more keys at about $35.00 each.  Since I had three keys for the old switch, and it didn't need replacing, I wasn't too happy with this, but is this typical?  Someone suggested that there is a sequence you should use after changing batteries; some sort of switch on, wait, off, on, etc.; -is there anything to that idea?
Sorry to ramble, but thank you very much in advance for any suggestions you might have.  -Marc

Answer
No there is no sequence to follow. However the cylinder replacement is somewhat normal. I personally would say that if the cylinder was not a failed part, you could argue with the dealer that you want your old cylinder reinstalled, so you can use your old keys, or they need to give you 2 more keys. I think that they would realistically comply with new keys since when I change those cylinders I cut the wires on the old one.

Otherwise all I can tell you is that if the computer fixes your problem then that is what it is.
