GMC Repair: 1998 gmc k-1500, intermittent no start when cold, gm goodwrench, fuel pump relay

Question
I have the above mentioned truck, and have been experiencing intermittent no starts when cold. This has been going on for 3 or 4 weeks now. I just noticed the other day that when i went to start, i didnt hear the fuel pump buzzing as i turned on the ignition. after about 10 start up attempts, the fuel pump will kick in and every things fine. runs down the road fine, ok in town, never seems to do it hot, or with thee engine running. always cold startup, not every morning. i suspect a bad fuel pump, bad fuel pump relay,or bad ecm or signal wire, any thoughts........ the intermittent problems are the hardest. thanks

Answer
The best advise I can offer you is to check the fuel pump relay under the hood for clicking when it is not starting. You can also check this by just turning on the key because the PCM turns on the fuel pump far 3-5sec when you turn on the key. If the relay is clicking and the pump is not running, either there is a voltage issue between there and the pump or you have a bad pump.

My experience says that it is a pump, but I may be wrong. Also I will tell you that if you have it replaced at a GM Goodwrench Dealer, you will get a lifetime parts and labor warranty on a new fuel pump.
