GMC Repair: 1991 GMC Inst. cluster convertion, gmc sierra, circut board

Question
Hello Ed.
I recently purchased an instument cluster to replace the falty one in my 1991 GMC Sierra. The old cluster is the "half moon" circular guages. I notice in some reading that GMC started installing the "sweeping" style guages in the later part of the 91 modle year.(early 1992,date)I really like this style so I recently purchased a cluster from a 1991 GMC with this style guages w/o tach. When I pulled my old cluster out I noticed that I have the Hard circuit board with "pins" and the "pin" style plug in the back if the dash. The new cluster has the "soft' circut board on the back of it. My question is, can I get a pig tail from a truck for the new cluster and splice it in place of the PIn style i have now. I have a schematic in my manual, but it doesn't specify year. Any insite would be helpfull befor I spend my Saturdy soldering and heat shrinking a dozen wires....lol.

Answer
Hi,Michael

I know what you mean,i installed the new syle Cadillac Escalade Gauge cluster in my 02 Sierra, looks awsome, but that is direct bolt in,plug and play.
On your wiring for the cluster,i believe there is a company that makes a jumper harness that interfaces those 2 clusters or whatever type of cluster you want, you may need to search the internet for the company,PAINLESS Wiring i think may be able to help you, they have done some good work for me in the past, your going to have to call them direct and talk to a rep he'll be able to find the jumper for you, that way you dont have to tear up the factory harness, let me know how you make out,and ill do some investigating on my end...Thanks
