GMC Repair: Electrical wipers, fuse tester, chevy malibu

Question
Thanks for the info, Is replacing the wiper motor an easy to do task.  I'd appreciate your guidance and thanks in advance. Otherwise I'll bring it in for service because the recall won't apply to me here in Hawaii.

I have a 98 chevy malibu, 6 cylinder type.At first my wipers would operate on low or medium speed even when I adjust it to high speed.  Several days ago it would stall, then after a minute or so eventually go.  Now it has stopped all together, and maybe if I flip the switch, it might work again.  The fuse tester was green.  I have not had any repairs to the wiper system.  If it is at all connected I have been experiencing other problems where the radio and display clock wouldn't work for a week then suddenly turn on, and AC would just blow air at level 1,2 and get cold on 3,4 (low on refrigerant?)but even then its not cold.  My rear brake lamps always burn out and I have had to repair the driver side electrical console (control the windows).  Whew, any suggestions?

Hi,Shauna

You have a few problems, though i think they are unrelated,on the wiper problem, you may have a failed wiper motor module or cover,we've had a few recalls on these due to the failures, also there is a recall for states that have snow and ice in the winter,if you live in those states then the dealer will repair the wiper motor module/cover at no charge ill give you the recall #01014,just give the dealer that number and they will know what to do,if your in the sunny states as i am,then the recall cannot be done and you will need to pay for the service,or you may attempt the repair yourself,if you do,i can guide you through the process, let me know.
On the radio issue, the radio may be failing and has lost communications with the other modules, your vehicle uses a data communications line,we call it the "800" line, all the modules{computers}in your car talk to each other through the 800 line,if a module drops out or fails to communicate it shuts down, then it will attempt to recommunicate again and if it can it will wake back up,that is why at times your radio display will work and then it wont again,it will also flag a U code for comms failure,so i believe you need a radio or send it out for repair,GM dealer parts can do that for you.
On the AC problem, its sounds like it may be low on refrigerant charge, also i have seen compressors begin to fail and cause this to,have the ac sys checked for leaks and have the compressor checked as well.
On the rear taillights/brake lamps, there is a GM bulliten issued for this complaint, the bulliten # 1546838 and you need to replace the rear taillamps circuit board, the new part is updated and new bulbs are availible as the fix also, the original boards were shorting internally, also check that there isnt any water intrusion in the lamp itsself, they have issued new seals for this problem and is part of that same Bulliten, let me know if you need more help,Thanks

To replace the wiper motor cover you need to remove the wiper arms, remove the air inlet grill, the wiper motor cover is located under this panel, remove the 3 screws holding the cover in place, and install the new cover,on the new cover put a small bead of weatherstrip adhesive around the edges of the cover.
