Hi, I have a 2000 intrigue that I just got back from the shop (it has 62000 mi) and had the fuel filter and fuel regulator replaced.  The car still seems to have a starting issue.  Sometimes it cranks long on the first try, so I turn the key again, then it starts right up.  I've never replaced the plugs or wires, but it seems to run great once its started, it cranks fine too. No codes. Any ideas?

Ej,
First off Did they check the fuel injector to see if they are leaking. I am assuming they did a fuel pressure test. Is it hard starting just when the engine is cold? Also check the air filter and make sure it is not clogged. I would go ahead and change the plugs and wires first thing. This could be the whole problem. They are pretty much at the life expectancy anyway. The plugs may be worn causing the gap to be wide. Let me know if this helps. Thanks for your question. Jeff

yes he did the pressure test afterwards and it was very good.  I makes no diff what the temp is.  It just always starts on the second try. Cranks just fine though. Someone mentioned turning the key to "on" for a few seconds and let the fuel pump run a little before starting. Would dumping in a can of Redline injector cleaner help maybe? I don't want to take it in again and end up spending another $250.  What should I expect to pay for new plugs and wires installed? I changed the air filter last summer. thanks for your help.

Answer
Ej,
The plugs and wires if you have it done by a shop would most likely run around $100. But it veries so much from state to state. Yes put some injector cleaner in when you fill up. Actually you can put a couple of cans in. It does sound like your injectors are leaking the fuel back into the fuel tank and it is taking a few seconds to get the fuel up to the injectors. Try letting the fuel pump run for 5 seconds then turn the key back off and turn it on again for about 5 seconds then start. Let me know if this helps and thanks again. Good Luck. Jeff
