GMC Repair: 2001 GMC jimmy, neutral safety switch, jumper wire

Question
My jimmy won't turn over.  There is power to the lights and guages.  I checked battery voltage and is all right.  When you turn key the lights come on and all guages and etc.  It acts like you have it in drive and try to start it. Would the starter relay cause this?  I did check the fuses and all seem to be ok.

Answer
William,
Connect a test light to the starter relay on the small contact. Have someone turn the key to start. See if the light lights up. If it does you have a bad solenoid. If not you could have a couple things wrong. Check for a melted fusible link. Should be in a purple wire under the dash or under the hood. A manual will tell you where it is located. If you don't have access to a manual let me know and I will look it up for you. Another thing it could be is the neutral safety switch. Again the manual will tell you where that is located and you can disconnect the wires and use a jumper wire to bypass the switch to see if it starts. If it does start then the switch is bad. Good luck and let me know.  Sorry it took so long to get back to you.  Thanks Jeff
