GMC Repair: 1989 GMC 350 blowing black smoke, vacuum lines, vacuum line

Question
the other day i drove the truck 4 miles and stopped to air up a tire, i noticed the engine going from high idle to low idle and back to high.I got in and reved it alittle and black smoke belched from the  pipe, put it into gear (automatic) and she died, restarted her by holding the throttle down to the floor till she finally caught, put her into gear (automatic) and she'd die. well i did this 4 times and finally decided to pull the battery cable, started her up and away she went, luckily she made it home. what do you think is a going on? oxygen sensor? puter? seams to me that it thinks its 40 below out and thinks it needs more gas? any ideas?

Answer
Check your vacuum lines for any cracks or for being extremly soft to the touch. Especially the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor .

What mechanical work or ANY kind of work has been performed on the vehicle recently ?. As most problems that occur after a recent repair was made can be traced back to the area of where the repair was made as a vacuum line may have been knocked loose or a wire connection came loose, Look around in the area where work was performed.
