Hi Autohelp,
I have an 2.5L 4 cylinder motor and it has a V-belt pulley system.  Wish to change over to a Serpatine belt and pulley system for the same motor.  Know of any good bone yards where a guy
can by the system from?  Are all the crank pulleys the same?  Will the alumium mounting bracket fit all earlier engines.  I have a S10
out of a 1986.

NONE of the serpentine pulleys will adapt to the components and they will not all line up correctly and you will be chewing up $55.00 serpentine belt(s) every 1000 miles.

Also even IF you do shim, make brackets and spend endless hours when you finally do get it somewhat close the configuration of the belt will cause the water pump and other components to run in the OPPOSITE direction. Especially most likely the water pump.

Are you sure that removing the alumium housing that holds the pulleys and mounting bracets from a newer motor plus removing the crankshaft pulley from the newer motor will not hook right up to a pre-1998 motor?

Answer
I have had MANY vehicles come into my facility that chewed up belt(s) on a regular basis when people tried to make this type of conversion and there were alignment problems, belt tension problems, components turning in the WRONG direction due to the serpentine belt configuration.

If you want to try it, Go ahead.
