GMC Repair: knock sensor location, knock sensor location, freeze plugs

Question
I would like to know where the knock sensor is located on a 2000 GMC 5.3L truck extended cab and how hard it will be to replace myself?  

Answer
The sensor is either located on TOP of the bell housing between the engine and transmission OR it is located on the side of the engine block near the freeze plugs.

WHY do you feel it necessary to replace it. It is RARE that one is faulty and very easy to test.
