GMC Repair: Wiper Arm Removal, screw driver, rubber blades

Question
I have a 92 Jimmy and the windshield squirt hose came loose under the front panel. I have to remove the complete wiper arms to remove this panel and cannot see how the arms are removed. There is no cap on the arms to access a retainer nut like on some vehicles. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.....Bill

Answer
OK, BUT there is a SPECIAL TOOL that is used so as NOT to accidently scratch the paint on the vehicle while trying to pry off the arm off of the threaded wiper arm stud.

1. Note the EXACT position of the wiper arm BEFORE you proceed.

2. Lift UP on the wiper arm as if you were going to replace the rubber blades.

3. Using a cloth or small block of wood set it just under the wiper arm where it attcahes to the threaded wiper arm stud of which is under the wiper arm that you are going to pry off.

4. using a large bladed screw driver position it just under the lip of where the wiper arm is attached to the threaded stud and pry upward towards you and the wiper arm will pop off.

5. To re-install it just realign it as noted in step # 1 and tap it back onto the threaded shaft.

NOTE: Some vehicles have a special FLAT SPOT on the threaded stud that will NOT allow you to mis-position the wiper arm during re-assembly.

NOTE:::::: Be EXTREMLY careful when using a screw driver to pop off the arm so as you do NOT damage the paint.

NOTE: SOME wiper arms have a small lock tab that you slide that holds the wiper arm in the upright position when removing the rubber baldes. This makes it much easier to pry off the wiper arm as you do not need to hold the arm in the upright position.

let me know.
