GMC Repair: engine trouble, crank pulley, rust buster

Question
I've got a 1964 Chevy c-10 that I've been rebuilding from the ground up. I rebuilt the engine (built 350c.i.) about 6 or 7 months ago but just now have had time to get it cranked up(it has 0 miles on it). This is where the problem is. My brand new starter wont turn the motor over. I pulled off the fan pulley and the crank pulley and tried to turn the engine from the harmonic balancer with a long steel rod (which i used to put my motor at TDC when rebuilding it) and it would not turn it over. Whats the problem? Please email back

Answer
You DID put lots of oil in the cylinders when you rebuilt it, YES ?. If NOT, Good possibility that the piston(s) are froze to the cylinders. May have to pull the pan and have a look at the baerings to see if they are free.

Pull the plugs and pour in some RUST BUSTER or extremly light oil such as transmission fluid or similar and let it soak over night.

Also could have a crank or rod bearing frozen, valve timing way off cauing valve(s) to be hitting the top of the pistons.

Pull the valve covers OFF and loosen the rocker shafts up and then see if it will turn by HAND.

You did not just happen to put the flywheel on BACKWARDS as this could be causing the flywheel to be jambed against the back of the engine block.

Has me wondering also. When you find out what it is, LET ME KNOW. CURIOUS.
