The signals on my 96 GMC pickup are not working. I replaced the emergency flasher (under the hood), the signal flasher (under the dash), checked the fuses (all of them), and replaced both bulbs with no change. The brake lights work and when I step on the brake the front turn signal lights light up. I have a check engine light on the dash (O2 sensor) and I recently had the heads worked on (I assume this should have no bearing on the turnsignals). Thank you in advance.

Are you saying that when you step on the brake pedal BOTH front turn signals come ON ?.

Yes the rear brake and front signal lights (like brake lights in the front) come on. The dash lights (directional indicators) come on as well.

Answer
I would suggest that you start looking for an open ground circuit somewhere in the engine compartment as this would be the ONLY correlation of the brake lights interacting with the front turn signal and dash turn signal lights.

There is a possibility that you have developed a problem within the steering column of which would be only the other possibility as the BRAKE LIGHT wire is shorted across to the front turn signal wires.

This is EXTREMLY rare and I would concentrate on a loose and or missing ground circuit in the engine compartment when the heads were worked on. It is HIGHLY probable that a ground wire was not properly attached and or came loose and what you are getting is a BACK FEED thru the brake and turn signal circuits.
