GMC Repair: 1995 Sonoma starter repair, starter repair, purple wire

Question
The reason I got a new starter is because when I turn the key, instead of starting I would hear it spin.  It has gotten progressively worse recently.  Now we installed the starter properly as far as we can tell, but now when you try to start it you do not get a click or any noise.  The only thing that happens is the accessories turn on.  Any thoughts on what we should do?  Thanks.

Question -
I just bought a new starter for my 95 Sonoma ( 4cyl) and had a friend install it yesterday.  After he installed it we tried to turn the engine over and got nothing.  No noise, no click, but the battery is charged.  Is there some connection we should re check or could the problem lay elsewhere?  Thank you so much for your help.

WHY did you replace the original starter ?.

Did you have this SAME problem with the original starter ?.

Answer
OK, You have the battery cable attached to the LARGE starter post along with 2 or 3 other smaller wires that also FIT the big post on the stater all attached, CORRECT ?.

You should have ONE wire usually colored purple attached to a smaller post on the stater post marked with an "S" symbol on the starter, CORRECT ?.

Using a test light verify that you have battery voltage at the LARGE post at the starter.

Using this test light verify that you have battery voltage at the SINGLE PURPLE wire when you try and start the vehicle, DO YOU ?.

IF you have a camera take a picture of how you have the stater wired an e-mail it to me at:

so I can see if you have it wired correctly.

Let me know.
