GMC Repair: interior lights stay on in 1994 Buick Roadmaster, buick roadmaster, metal portion

Question
I have a 1994 Buick Roadmaster.  Tonight while I
was driving it, the interior lights stopped
turning off.  Usually they stay on for a minute
after the ignition is off, and turn off
automatically.  They also are supposed to come
on when the doors are opened and switch off when
I start the car.  Now they're staying on all the
time.

The last time I drove the car, I closed the door
firmly and the handle pulled out of the door.
Tonight I was trying to ease the handle back in
and I am wondering if I yanked a switch that is
causing the trouble.

Thanks!

Answer
You just found your own problem when you stated:

"I yanked a switch that is causing the trouble".

The small metal tab is now grounded to the metal portion of the door panel and THUS the lights stay ON all the time.

You will need to get the door handle fixed and a new door handle switch for the ILLUMINATED ENTRY TIMER.
