Hello I have a 2000 GMC Sierria 1500 4WD 5.3 with four wheel disc brakes with 50,000 miles I have replaced all the brake pads and bleed the brakes all the way around and I still have a spongy brake pedal it goes down about half way it just doent fill right I think it should be firmer and not go down as far I checked the booster according to repair manuel and it seemed allright so Ive exhausted my options I dont wont to just start buying parts till I know what it is I would apprecate any help you can give me thank you Charles

Answer -
$ wheel disc and ABS brake systems always feel spongy as compared to non 4 wheel disc and or ABS brakes. They feel especially spongy after brake work has been done on the brake system. You need to give the brake pads time to wear into the brake rotor surface and after  let's say 2 weeks or so you MIGHT notice that they feel a LITTLE firmer but not much.

the easiest way to ease your mind is to find another vehicle that has your EXACT same brake style being 4 wheel disc and ABS if you have ABS and ask the owner if he would mind if you stepped on his brake pedal to compare it to yours.

I just bought my wife a new chevy blazer that has 4 wheel disc and ABS and she asked me the same question your asking. "THE BRAKES SEEM SPONGY>". I just smiled and said I KNOW.

Hello its been about 6 mobths since I put brakes on the pedal goes down about halfway and I have checked other trucks like mine and they do have more pedal IM thinking master cly but I want to be sure and I dont know how to check it thank you Charles

Answer
WHY di you NOT include this in your original question.?.

The ONLY information that I received compelled me to believe that you just installed the brakes.

Had you SAID you did the work SIX MONTHS ago and the pedal is still the SAME spongy feeling, My answer would have been VERY DIFFERENT.

Yes, With this NEW INFORMATION that you LEFT OUT, I would suspect that the master cylinder is leaking internally past the seals and it is VERY COMMON.

When you ASK for help. PLEASE give us ALL the information.
