GMC Repair: 2001 Whining of engine on acceleration!, gmc yukon, power steering pump

Question
I own a 2001 GMC Yukon with about 56,000 miles on it.  About 2 weeks ago it started whining from the engine and only does it while accelerated.  When I stop it stops.  I am concerned that this could be a serious problem even though it seems to run fine.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can you hear the noise just sitting still and reving the engine ?. If so, I would probably say, Without actually seeing the vehicle that your problem is most likely:

1. The aletrnator.
2. The power steering pump.
3. the transmission torque converter.

But, The noise has to be heard for an accurate diagnosis.
