GMC Repair: Hazard and brake lights not working., electrical fuse, gmc safari

Question
Hello Again:

Being up early and worrying about some old lady without brake lights or hazard signals you very well may be nuts. Anyway I tried your suggestion about blowing out the dust from the signal button and that made me happy for ten minutes but did not work.  I still have a feeling it might be some electrical fuse or one of those large square ones that I cannot see if the contact is broken.  Remember my brake lights also don't work and maybe there is a connection.  If you can find the time please e-mail me with a suggestion.  Thanks again for your time and effort.

Jackie

Followup To     Thanks for your quick response.  Yes all my signal lights work.  The hazard button is on top of the steering wheel.

I own a 2001 gmc safari van.  It has a 6 cylinder motor with automatic transmission.  I had a flat tire last week and when I went to put on my hazard lights they did not work.  When I got the car home I checked the fuses and bulbs I thought would correct the problem but it did not and I noticed that my brake lights also don't work.  I am stumped on what to look for or do now.  Could there be another fuse that connects these two problems?  Thank you for reading this and possibly helping me.

Do you have turn signals at the front and back of the vehicle ?.

WHERE is the HAZARD BUTTON/SWITCH located on the vehicle that you turned ON ?.

OK, I have seen this one many times. What has happened is that dirt/dust has gotten into the switch because the STUPIDLY put it on TOP of the steering wheel. You can either keep turning the hazards ON and OFF several times to clean away the dirt/dust or find somebody who has an AIR COMPRESSOR and they can blow high pressure air around the sides of the switch and it should thrn work just fine.

If you would keep your car CLEAN this would not happen. I AM JUST KIDDING about keeping your car clean. After all it's 5:30 am in the morning here in New Mexico and I am up writing letters.

I must be NUTS.

Let me know.

Answer
OK, It is very difficuly to give the EXACT answer the first time around , But sometimes I'm lucky, But I guess not today.

OK, Under the dash on the brake pedal arm (this is the arm that supports your brake peda) you will see a small plastic, Usually WHITE, BLACK, or GRAY in color. This would be your BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH.

While you watch this PLASTCI switch push the brake pedal with your HAND and a little plastic BUTTON will come protrude from the switch. Replace this switch and your brake lights should be operative again.

Ask the parts person for a:

BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH for your particular YEAR, MAKE and MODEL of vehicle. They may want to know if your vehicle also has CRUISE CONTROL so make SURE that you know if you DO or DO NOT BEFRORE you go and purchase the brake light switch.

Switch cost approx $18.00
