GMC Repair: 94 GMC Yukon 4x4 Full Size Brake Light Switch, brake light switch, gmc yukon

Question
Hi. Everything works in the bulb and signal department including the safety hazard lights but, my brake lights do not. The only thing left is the brake light switch on the brake pedal(?) Is this right? If so, how do you remove and replace?
Thanks for your help in advance-Joe

Answer
Brake light switches are very inexpensive and I would suggest that you go and buy one FIRST so you can see what you are looking for under the dash above the brake pedal where the switch is mounted.

The switch is usually made of plastic and has a 2 or 4 wire connection and what looks like a threaded rod with a button on the end.

The switch is removed by pushing the button end of the switch with enough pressure as to cause the threaded portion of the switch to push out of the metal collar that supports it.

Installation is just to push the threaded end of the switch back into the metal bracket until the button touches the brake pedal arm.

Reattach your electrical connections and your done.

NOTE: When you go to purchase the switch you will be asked if your vehicle DOES or DOES NOT have cruise control as the switches are DIFFERENT for cruise and non-cruise.
