Alfa Romeo Repair: 1985 Alfa Romeo GTV6, bolt and nut, alfa romeo

Question
Hi Steve
I have removed V6 engine from the car for reconditioning (done 280,000 km). But I cannot get the heads off. One head has a single stud with corrosion right to the top of the head stopping it from moving. The other head has two studs corroded. Do you have any suggestions as to how I could proceed?

Ciao,Denis

Answer
I had that problem once in the 50's and once in the 70's.
First spend a day (off and on) applying liquid wrench to the studs (or other corrosion fighter). Each time you apply the solution hit the studs with a hammer to encourage the fluid through vibration wait at least an hour before making the next application.  Then, when you feel ready, find purchase points under the head where you can fit a bolt and nut. What you do is run the nut off the bolt in contact with the head. You will need different lengths of bolt for this and it is time consuming. It is the only way I know of that for sure will not cause any damage.
