Alfa Romeo Repair: 155 V6 Cooling problem, cross the wires, temp sensor

Question
Hi,

I have a 155 2.5 V6.  It is getting very hot.

The temp is exceeding 90. Unusually the fan is not switching on.

I have noted the overflow reservoir's water level appears to rise quite quickly. When checking it while at idle.

I am hoping the answer is straight forward because the only tool I have is my leatherman. I'm 400km from home!

Any assistance is appreciated.

Answer
Find out why the fan is not coming on. It is effective in cooling the radiator below 30mph. I take it that when stopped you have the overheating problem.  Check the fuse for the fan and if it is good cross the wires at the temp sensor on the radiator (or at the thermostat housing) for the fan. Let the fan run all the time until you get home.  Or keep the cabin heater on high to also get the engine cooler.
