Alfa Romeo Repair: 147 Injection / Fuel problem, coil pack, faulty components

Question
I have a 1600cc t-psark 147.  A problem occurred recently while accelerating up to about 60mph (not hard acceleration). The engine seemed to drop a plug, and the engine management light came on. I drove home, approx 10 miles.  I assumed the fault may be due to either a faulty ignition lead, plug or coil pack. I investigated further and found that the plugs in No1 cylinder (next to timing belt cover)  appeared to be wet (small amount of oil) and not to be firing . However, having interchanged the plugs, leads and coils I have concluded no fault appears within these items. Yet, the No1 cylinder continues not to operate. Having cleaned the plugs to No1 cylinder a number of times it has been apparent that no petrol vapour is present, therefore I am assuming that the problem is with the fuel supply to the No1 cylinder.

The car has covered 100,000 miles but is well looked after – does use some oil.

Can you advise to the probable cause / remedy, also if you could confirm the location of likely faulty components this would be helpful.

regards

Paul – on two feet and wanting my Alfa back !

Answer
It would help to confirm if there is an electrical signal to the injector. But, the odds are that having the injectors cleaned by ultrasound (off car) will cure the problem. If you cannot find an ultrasound cleaning facility then replace with rebuilt injectors.
