Alfa Romeo Repair: auto radio, negative battery cable, alfa 156

i bought an alfa 156 2003. to activate the radio we had to insert a code. my husband didn't have it and tried 1111. he tried it 2 times and now the radio keeps saying "WAIT" and doesn't ask for a code anymore. how to solve it?

Disconnect the negative battery cable.  Remove the radio and find code on data plate.  Reinstall radio. Before connecting the negative cable, touch it to the positive cable for 10 to 20 seconds.  If you cannot find the code, contact www.alfaowner.com...
