Alfa Romeo Repair: 1986 Spider Veloce speedometer & fuel rail, spider veloce, fuel rail

Question
A Goodyear mechanic identified the source of a gasoline odor as my fuel rail: there is no leakage onto the floor of the garage.  How do I tell if the rail needs to be replaced as opposed to new gaskets or etc?

The speedometer stopped registering suddenly.  It does not jump or spin or do anything at all.  Is this a circuit breaker problem (as my husband suggests) or is it most likely a bad cable?

Answer
The leak is probably caused by old hoses connecting the injectors to the fuel rail. While out for this repair the injector spray pattern should be checked.

The speedometer problem should be the electrical connection at the sender on the transmission although the sender could also be faulty--the magnets do lose position and cease to function.
