Alfa Romeo Repair: Cooling system overheating, fan switch, cylinder head

Question
Hi Stephen

My Alfa 2001 156 is over heating in traffic due to the fan only coming when the engine is over heating I know the problem is electrcal but if it is not repaired will it eventually result in the head gaskit going?

Answer
The problem is the temperature at which the fan switch is programmed to come on.

Install a bypass switch on the dash for you to control.  Also, install a 180 to 185 F temp thermostat and an aftermarket temp switch that comes on at no more than 200 F.

Have the cylinder head retorqued soon.
