Alfa Romeo Repair: ignition system, air leaks, alfa 164

my alfa 164 will start but will not run for very long. it wont accelerate and it wont idle. if it does it doesnt last very long at all. im thinking that it could possibly be a coil or coil wire problem but im not sure cause the car starts but dies within a few minuets. what could be the problem?

Do you mean that it will only run at an rpm above idle, like
2500rpm? If so, this could be an air leak, water in the gas,
a faulty fuel pump, a clogged fuel filter and so on.

Air leaks and water in the fuel can be difficult to diagnose.
With few tools and skills, I would start with changing the
fuel filter.  Also, retain the fuel from the fuel filter and
put it in a glass and look for bubble like formations at the
bottom of the glass which would indicate water in the fuel.

Let me know what you find with the fuel filter change.
