American Motors: what is the tube coming off my valve cover for, crankcase breather, pcv system

Question
hay Kevin thanks for the wire diagram. Everything worked out great. So my question for you this time is this, I want to change out my old valve covers for a set of crome ones. but all the covers that i can find for a 304 dont have have a small I guess it would be a breather port comming out of the driver side valve. that has a tube connected to it. do I need that, what do i have to do to get around it, do they make a set of valve covers with it, or do i have to modify a new set to fit that app, thanks again for all your help

Answer
You are correct. The hole in the valve cover is for a crankcase breather. It must be there to allow fresh air to be drawn into the crankcase so the PCV system works properly. There are after market valve covers that include the breather.
If you just drill a hole in an exsisting cover, oil would splash up into the tube or breather. It needs a baffle on the inside to prevent this from occuring.
