American Motors: replace rear main seal, pan gasket, mount cross

Question
In a 1979 AMC Concord (2wd) what's the easiest way to change the rear main seal?  Should I raise the engine to remove the oil pan or disconnect all the steering and suspension stuff as well as the motor mount cross-member?  I also have a new transmission leak even after changing the transmission filter and pan gasket.  Where should I look there?  The car's only got 110K miles on it and runs pretty well.

Answer
The easiest way? Send it out to a garage.
Really though, you can loosen the front motor mounts and lift the engine high enough to remove the pan, then use an engine support across the engine compartment with a chain or threaded rod. I've seen some guys use a 4X4 piece of wood, but I am NOT suggesting that. Keep an eye on the fan so it doesn't damage the radiator.
As for the tranny leak, check check the front pump seal, or better yet, why you have it out, replace it.
