American Motors: AMC Eagle Sound System, amc eagle, orginal condition

Question
I have a 1986 AMC Eagle Station Wagon (all wheel drive) that is in very original condition.  I would like to have a new CD player and radio installed, but have been told the dashboard will have to be altered so that it cannot be returned to original condition.  Do you know if this is accurate or do you have any suggestions about how I can have a new sound system without compromising the orginal condition of my car.

Answer
Unless you can find an aftermarket stereo that fits the original opening, you have a problem. Most aftermarket stereos today have a DIN body where as your Eagle does not.
Maybe you can find a new panel for your center dash. That way you can install a modern stereo, then replace the panel if you want to go back to OEM. You should be able to fins a used one from an Eagle or Concord. Check online AMC vendors or call Collier AMC in Pikeville, NC. Their number is 919-242-4462.
