American Motors: 83 Eagle 4x4 clicks., three wheel cars, cv joints

Hey Kevin, I was backing up to park my car, and the front, driver side wheel assembly fell off and under my bumper.
Turns out, the lower ball joint popped out of its socket.
The only damage was the lower ball joint socket, and the 4x4 linkage pulled out of the housing (connected to the diff).
I replaced the wheel assembly (reused the steering linkage, stabilizers, upper ball joint).
Now before the break, my 4x4 linkage on the front left would click loudly, and even knock slightly, when i put torque behind it while turning left.
Since i installed the new wheel assembly and 4x4 linkage, it no longer clicks when turning, but instead, clicks quietly when going straight, again, with torque behind it.
I assume that whatever is causing the click, also caused my wheel to fall off.  As much fun as three wheel cars are, for whatever reason, pretty ladies refuse to come for rides with any less than 4 wheels.
Any idea what is causing the click?

ps (the upper ball joint isn't in great shape, nor is the steering knuckle nearest the wheel hub.  Also, the suspension is a bit lower that stock due to age).

This message suddenly popped up in my email. It looks a bit old, but I'll try to answer, anyway.
Usually, when a rotating click noise is heard, it indicates the front axle CV joints. It is not uncommon for them to wear out and make this noise. Grab the axle and shake it up and down and left to right. It should be fairly tight. If not, replace it. You can get rebuilt ones at a reasonable cost.
