American Motors: 1981 AMC Eagle SX/4, amc 360, amc eagle

I have a 1981 Eagle SX4 with the 4 cylinder and I think a 4 speed transmission it could be a 5 speed. It was given to me about a week ago and it needs some head work and it will not run. What I wanted to know is: I have an old 1986 wangoneer that has an AMC 360 in it and I would like to put it in my Eagle. I do not know if it will fit or if it will bolt to the transmission. Has this been done? Would I have to change the transmission and Transfer Case or is the bolt pattern the same for the 4 cylinder and the 360 V8.

I already changed engines in my 85 AMC Eagle and what I did was put in a 318 mopar engine as it bolted right up to the transmission perfectly.

I doubt that a 360 will fit in the engine compartment and I am pretty sure the engine will not bolt up to the eagles transmission.
