QUESTION: The Fisher 500-C has 16ohm, 8ohm, 4ohm impedance output that can be used. The AR-3's are 4 ohm spkrs and for more than 30 yrs the spkrs were setup to the Fisher receiver at 8 ohms my question is can the 8ohm output harm those spkrs after all this time or is the customer lying to me about the tweeter and mids being shot ? That is the question....

Answer
NO the question is, can the 4 ohms speaker harm the receive Yes but not the other way around and we know nothing happened to the receiver there is no way the receiver will damage the speakers,

now there are small capacitors inside the speaker box that will leak and open the audio signal going to the mid or tweeters  this go bad with time and heat very cheap to repair they are about $3.00 each  ask your customer to remove the individual speakers and test them one by one whit out the crossovers in the box, at low volume just to make sure they are ok

no way to know if the customer is lying look at his rating
