Audio Systems: 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Audio/Shortage?, mercury grand marquis, grand marquis

Question
Hello I have a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis. I noticed that sometimes my front door speakers would cut out and then eventually they went out completely unless i hit a bump in the road and then the sound will come back and blank out again! What is causing this? Because the Rear trunk speakers still work fine! Also i noticed that my headlights dim a little bit when i press the button to roll down my windows. In addition to all that, my cigarette lighter in the car and the security number pad on the drivers door doesn't work either! I'm thinking there is a shortage or something but all my fuses work(i tested them). Could this be an alternator problem?

Answer
Hi Kiara.
Most likely the speaker problem is an intermittent problem due to degraded wires where they go through the door hinge area. If so, they will need to be replaced in that area by splicing new wire sections in where it goes from the car to the door (there should be a flexible rubber sleeve over them).
The dimming lights could just be a normal issue if you are using power (and the engine is at or near idle). It should not do this when the engine is at 2500 RPM's or so. If it still does it with engine revved up it could be a bad ground or a bad alternator or voltage regulator.
In a car of that age it really will need to be seen by a professional in person to see for sure.

I wish I had a simple yes or no for you.
