Audio Systems: aftermarket stereo installation, bose speakers, pioneer unit

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2004 G35 Coupe with bose speaker system. My stock stereo
gives me an error message "Check Disc". I dont want to fix it since it doesn't even play mp3s. I want to get a 2012 PIONEER AVH-P1400DVD In-DASH 5.8" 2-DIN stereo installed but I was wondering if I would be able to take out the stock radio, and cut the frame where the stock face is so the new receiver can fit rather than spending a lot more money buying a stereo kit. Do you think that will be possible?

ANSWER: I think the Pioneer unit is not compatible with the Bose system.  The Bose speakers will not interface with the Pioneer unit.  The Bose speakers actually have the power amp mounted in the basket of the speakers and are driven with a 2.5v audio whereas the Pioneer is a 1v output. Further more the Bose is a three wire system and all others use two wire speaker systems.

So, in order to make the Pioneer unit agreeable to your Infiniti it will require all the speakers to be ripped out and replaced and the wiring to be reconciled.

But, if you keep the Bose system there are a couple of possibilities for adding a external input or ipod connections.  Look here:

and maybe you can salvage the present system.

Let me know if you need more.

QUESTION: Thank you for your speedy reply! I have search Crutchfield and found a unit compatible with my bose system.

That aside, whether it will connect to my bose system or of i need other speakers, I was wondering if I would be able to take out the stock radio, and cut the frame where the stock face is so the new receiver can fit rather than spending a lot more money buying a stereo kit. Do you think that will be possible?

Answer
Thanks. Should be no problem if you are willing to do the hacking for the fit.  Of course, you must make sure there is sufficient room inside the dash for the size of the Pioneer.  If Crutchfield says it will fit then it probably will as Crutchfield has the most exhaustive and conclusive database of anyone in the business.  They really know what they are doing.

Also, take a look at installer.com as they supply a large number of brackets and fitting hardware for every kind of automobile.

Installer.com does not list Infiniti separately but if you do a search on their web pages there are a number of dash install kits available.  See:

http://www.installer.com/pages.php?search_string=infiniti

Using a premade kit may be an easier way of achieving a good fit and finish to the inside looks.

Best wishes.
