Audio Systems: Motorcycle fairing speakers, inch speakers, motorcycle fairing

Question
Would a fairing with four five inch round speakers give me better sound than one with two six by nines? I won't have any rear speakers.

Answer
Hey Buddy.
It could sound better if we agree that you are seeking clear, full range sound. Some people think all they need is bass and nothing else..ect.
It will depend on the speakers you intend to use compared to what is in there now.
A great pair of 6x9 with a high efficiency rating would probably work better than four, moderately priced, five inch ones that do not have a good efficiency rating.   That rating is basically telling us how much volume a speaker will put out with a 1 watt input (The higher the better).  Compare Polk ratings to most any other brand, for example.

If the 6x9's are not pointed at you correctly, having two (of the four)  5 inch speakers mounted facing more towards you could be better for imaging and stereo. Placement is critical. Other than imaging and staging, the 6x9's win on installation, hands down either way.
I am suggesting that you not replace your 6x9's unless:
A) They are poor (cheap) speaker designs (installed properly so you can hear them) and upgrading to a better pair would fix the issues.
B) They are good speakers, but are not placed well acoustically.

It will be hard to replace a properly installed set of 6x9's 'sound' with four 5 inch speakers unless money is not an issue.
Many, multi-speaker options are available if you want to dig into your pocket.

I would suggest a 6.5" and a good tweeter per side for starters.
Simply adding a good pair of tweeters may fix many issues unless you need more bass.

It is also hard to nutshell your options without speaker specifications or models/makes so please let me know if you have any more questions and do not hesitate to add more specifics :).
