Audio Systems: Would this amp be ok with my subs?, speaker impedance, ohm loads

Question
Hi, I want to run 2 Alpine SWR1243D (DVC 4-ohm) subwoofers in my car. I would like to know if the Hifonics BRZ1200.1D amplifier would run them both at 600 watts each if i wire it to 1-ohm? Here is the link to the amp for more info:

Would this amp be a good choice for my subs?

Thanks alot!

Answer
If you put all the voice coils in parallel it will, yes, give you the load impedance of one ohm.

I have always been cautious about running one ohm loads.  The dc resistance of the connecting wires become a factor making the actual load a little more than one ohm hence the power delivered will become a little less theoretically.  However, the problem that worries me with some amplifiers is that, especially with vented systems, the speaker impedance drops a little lower than the rated impedance. As an example, some 2 ohm coils when tested vs frequency have a dip at resonance that drops the impedance down 10 to 20% below the rating.  Thus, in your case, the impedance might, at some frequency around resonance, drop to 0.8 ohms or something like that.  Many amplifiers don't like that.... but is is a small matter to worry about.

I have no personal experience with the amplifier you are planning to use but I have reason to believe that it won't do a find job.

Best wishes.
