Audio Systems: polk speaker testing, speaker wires, car speaker

Question
Is there a way to test polk 4ohm car speaker.to see if their blown.with out hooking it up to the head unit?

Answer
Yes.
You could use a small battery (9 V) and attach the speaker leads to it for just a moment.
DO NOT HOLD THE SPEAKER LEADS continuously on the battery!!
This will make it momentarily move in or out of the basket (depending on the polarity). They call it 'popping the speaker' in the install industry.
It is also a good way to be sure which lead of a speaker is positive or negative. This can be very handy when you have a bunch of speaker wires near an amp or head unit that you need to identify. ;)
Example: If it goes out of the basket... the lead hooked to the positive side of the battery is positive.
You could also hook it up to a home stereo at low volume to see if it sounds ok with music.
