Audio Systems: 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Extended Cab ~ Full Audio Upgrade, 2006 chevrolet silverado, polk audio speakers

Question
Hi, I have a 2006 Silverado extended cab that i recently purchased, but the the audio is very sub par and the bass has seen better days in it.  I have a Kenwood deck for it (Kenwood KDC - MP345U) which is a fairly small deck, i dont know if i should be looking at a bigger one... I was looking at replacing and upgrading the stock speakers throughout the entire truck and possibly putting a couple sub-woofers underneath the back seat.  I was wondering what would be most suitable things to look at in this situation.  I am a audio noob so this will be most definitely installed by a professional.  I was wondering what the audio equipment will run me?  I have no price range at the moment but am not investing thousands or something ridiculous like that.

Answer
how much will it run you?
You and I need a price range!
You said you would not spend 'thousands' but would you spend 700-1000?  500-700?
I have no idea of your expectations of clarity, durability or output (some people are happy with 'accurate bass'... others are not happy unless it hurts their ears and shakes body parts off of the vehicle). You also have given me no idea of what you are expecting volume-wise or what features you may need.
Do you want crossovers up front or built-in to the amplifiers?
Unless you love that Kenwood I would suggest buying a Clarion headunit (if you upgrade it).
Stock replacement speakers that I would suggest to use could run you anywhere from 200.00 and up (for four).
Most subs and amps I would suggest can run anywhere from 200.00 and up.
There are alternatives which are less expensive but you generally get what you pay for.
*You might find a 28.00 Pyramid Sub that will work in a huge enclosure only to have the magnet fall off of it after a few good bumps on the highway.
I understand that you do not have a set price range but I cannot start really directly assisting a client until I have one.
You really need to do a little research and comparisons in order to make a few informed decisions.
Whether I help you do that or you have a local pro help you or you go to Crutchfield, you could use a combination of these to help you make many of the choices BUT the 1st thing any reputable technician or salesman will do is ask you a half a dozen questions to set a 'baseline'.

34 years of real world audio experience tells me to send you here, first:

I would suggest going to www.crutchfield.ca and discussing your options with them. They are top notch at factory upgrades.
I would suggest Polk Audio Speakers as replacements.
Tell them how much bass you need and they can easily point you towards something decent that fits.
Support is second to none even after the sale.

Start here:
http://www.crutchfield.ca/vehicleselector.asp
After you fill that out the site will only show you things which 'fit' your Truck.
Shop, compare make some basic speaker choices based on function and price then let me know if you need any more assistance.

Call them if needed and good luck.

These guys are top notch and this is the same advice I would give my own Brother if he emailed me about it.
Come back after that and we can hone in on some more specific advice for your truck install.

Even if you were not a 'self-proclaimed noob' I would would still need to ask a few of these questions (they might be more technically oriented but would mostly be the same questions).
If you think this answer is not adequate, then you may need to re-submit the question and add some of these details I have mentioned or speak to someone in person about this....like Crutchfield or a local pro or two.
Please be specific as instructed on the question submission page!!

If worse comes to worse and you do not want any part of the decision making... you could always drop the truck off at an audio shop and give them a check for whatever you are willing to spend.

Cheers and good luck (I say that with some degree of apprehension because I have found that the more I know about an audio situation, the better is my 'luck' in resolving it). ♫
