Audio Systems: radio noise, audio noise, radio noise

Question
I have a 2003 chevy S-10 4 wheel drive pickup. A while back I noticed annoying static like noise when I played the radio when the truck is running. No noise when it is shut off. I changed the plug wires and spark plugs to no avail. I've asked around but am still unable to get rid of this noise. The connection from the antenna to the cable seems fine, I started to tear the dash apart, but stopped until hopefully can get an easier fix. Is there a filter, or some other electronic part that might be causing this? I appreciate any help. Thank you.  Garnz Wilson

Answer
There are noise filters of many kinds. It depends on what the source of the noise is in your particular situation.  You did not say it if the noise is coming from AM or FM or both and if it goes up and down with volume.  These tell-tale signs give a clue as to the source of the problem.

But, there are many solutions that you can consider. Please google the terms "noise filter car audio" and you will see a number of possible filters and apparatus that can be put on your list. Then study your problem carefully in selecting the filter most likely to provide the best solution.

Here is a troubleshooting article that may help you determine what kind of noise and interference you are facing:
