Audio Systems: BOSE 6 CD changer OEM 2001 TT Roadster, alignment problem, laser alignment

Question
Hi Jerry,

I've been having trouble with a Bose 6 CD changer (installed in rear deck) where the CD begins to intermittently skip on later tracks in the CDs.  This began to happen after the instrument cluster was replaced on the car. The radio works fine, the cassette I've never used. The dealership says its because of scratches on the CDs, CD paper labels interfering with lens... I have used lens cleaners, compressed air, played all affected CDs on other players with no problems, don't know what else to do.  Any recommendations?  Why would track 1,2,3 on CD 1 play fine, but skip randomly on all others, and skip here and there on all tracks on other CDs.  It's aggravating. Happy to spend money to fix problem, but don't want to waste money.

Any info appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
Hi Anne.
To be frank: Possibly a laser alignment problem (but a ten year old mobile changer is most likely the issue).
That is the most logical answer but I am not an Audi specialist.
I would tell the shop that worked on it what happened and see where that gets you but you will generally not get very far with them since a changer can go south at any time.
It would not be hard to try a replacement changer from Audi, but it is rather spendy if they will not let you 'try it' first.

Best of luck and I am very sorry that I cannot assist you more fully as to an exact problem/resolve for this one.
