Audio Systems: Power but no sound installing new car stereo, sony car stereo, dodge ram 1500

Question
QUESTION: Hello I just bought a Sony car stereo so I could listen to my iPod in my truck. I have a 2005 dodge ram pickup.  I installed it using a metra wiring harness and it seems to me all wires are connected properly. Anyway I have power to the head unit but no sound. I have tried the am/fm tuner, a cd, and my iPod. They all play but have no sound. Thank you for your time and assistance.

ANSWER: 1.  Are you sure the wiring harness is the right one?

You can check the wiring from the guide here:

http://www.modifiedlife.com/2005-dodge-ram-1500-truck-car-radio-stereo-wiring-di

and if that is not your truck, click over on the right side of that page for your model.

2.  Perhaps there is an audio amplifier in between the head unit and the speakers in which case the power amp must be turned on and the connections to it from your head unit by coax cable or such.  Check that out.  There are many models of the RAM trucks and they do not all have the same factory system for head wiring and speaker combinations.  So, check it carefully at modified live web site above.  Also, Crutchfield.com has good wiring code information and installation ideas for specific make, model and year.

Good Luck.

QUESTION: Thank you so much for the prompt response. I think I found my answer to why im not getting sound while researching a little.  I have the infinity 7 speaker system and from what I read here http://www.dodgetalk.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-30965.html it's going to be something I don't think I can do. So I think I'm going to get it professionally done. Thank you so much for your help!

Answer
Yes, that trail of discussion you referenced includes the amplifier that is in the model under question. Yours vehicle probably has the amp, too. It may be as simple as hooking up the remote turn ON wire that goes from the head unit to the amp - which turns it on when the head unit is turned on.

In any event, hope you get it working.  Best wishes and thanks for your feedback to me.
