Audio Systems: Differences between Roland and Yamaha keyboard?, amateur songwriter, yamaha keyboard

Question
Differences between Roland and Yamaha keyboard?

I would like to buy an electronic keyboard for my cousin and would like to ask for major differences between Roland and Yamaha keyboard.

My main aim is to utilize the auto-accompaniment of the keyboard, so that my cousin - an amateur songwriter - could have her song accompanied by the auto orchestra. You know, you only need to play the melody and chords, and then the sounds would come out nicely thanks to the accompaniment. And then, I would need to import the Midi file to a computer for editing.

If that is my main aim, what is your advice?

Thank you.

Answer
Roland are used mainly for live and theatre use; not as much in the home.

Yamaha is noted for its fine sound quality.

The feature set of the models you are considering must be compared one on one.

I suggest strongly that you visit a music store such as a Sam Ash or other shop where you can see each board, play with it, get the sales staff to show you all the workings of each feature.  Then, also, do some listening tests of your own for sound quality differences of the models you are considering.

Since your application is specific you should explain that to the sales staff so they can guide you through the advantages and disadvantages of each of the competitors.

That is my advice.
