Audio Systems: bass, bass reproduction, driver speaker

Question
Hello,
My parents refuse to buy me a sub and my music consists mainly of bass(hip-hop). I bought a pair of KFC-6982ie Kenwood 6x9's and a pair of TS-D720C Pioneer 6.5 component speakers. The Kenwood's frequency range is 28Hz-33Khz and the Pioneer's frequency range is 30Hz-33Khz. Also the Kenwood's are 90watt RMS and the Pioneer's are 60watt RMS. How much bass can I expect out of these speakers and will an amp help my cause? Thank you for your time.  -Jesse Hernandez

Answer
Frequency response ratings on loudspeakers are mostly fiction.  Low frequency output will be a function of the amplifier driving them and the sensitivity of the speaker AND the mounting configuration in the box or door cavity of the vehicle.

Bass reproduction is highly dependent upon the acoustic space it is loading into and the enclosure on the back side of the driver/speaker.  You can get pretty good bass from a 6x9 if it is loaded right and amped good.

Good Luck.
