Audio Systems: Car Audio and clock issue, stereo wiring diagram, hyundai accent

Question
Hi there,

I was hoping you could solve my problem for me.
I have a Hyundai 1999 model hatch.
I have fitted a new stereo (sony head deck)to the car and was sort of successful in doing so.
The problem that I have is the clock within the car and the stereo keeps being reset (not holding tuned radio stations or clock time) upon myself starting the engine...??
Have I wired this incorrectly??? if so how do I go about fixing it?? is there another wire for power somewhere??
I have tried all that I know....

Please help,
Regards
Scotty.

Answer
Nope, you wired it wrong.

There are two 12v connections to be made to the head unit. One is constant and never is disconnected.  It keeps the clock and presets fired up all the time.  The other is the remote turn-on that comes from the ignition and actually turns on the electronics of the head unit.  It would seem you have these two 12v lines reversed!

Congratulations on being about 95% correct in your installation.

You can find the color code for the two wires in your car at this site (you didn't give me the model of yoru car so you will have to find it on the right hand side of this URL):
