Question
i want to know what type of amp i should use for my sub-woofers.they are 2 3000 watt each Quantum spl subs (Q12D2SPL#model 2ohm dual voice coil totaling 6000 watts. should i use a 6000 watt amp or 3000 watt amp and what class and how many ohm's.i would really appreciate your help. thank you

Answer
These are only 85 db sensitive.  And 1500 watts input power.  Peak power ratings do not mean anything.

If you put the voice coils in parallel you must have an amp on each speaker that can support a 1 ohm load.

If you put the voice coils in parallel you will have a 4 ohm load. Then if you put the two subs in parallel to each other you will have a 2 ohm load.

So, you must choose the amplifier and loading that fits your installation preferences.

If you go to really big amplifiers you will need a heavy duty battery and alternator for your vehicle.

Unless you are a real techie I suggest you stay with down to earth amps and wiring.

Here is a good site for wiring configurations that will tell you how to hook them up.

Then tell me more after you have figured this out and we can go to the next step. I will need to know the vehicle you are installing them in and the box design you are going to use; then we can talk more seriously.
