Audio Systems: Monitor Speakers/Mics, audio yamaha, active speaker

Hi,
I'm a musician, and I'm trying to setup a small recording system. I was wondering what you think are the best monitor speakers out there. Right now I'm using the speakers from my cheap stereo system and they aren't cutting it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, the "best" monitors are subjective, not to mention incredibly expensive. Whatever you decide on I would recommend an active speaker as opposed to passive. Having built in amplifiers will give you a cleaner sound and will end up being cheaper in the long run. A few brands that are good quality for a reasonable price would be Mackie, Event, M-Audio, Yamaha or KRK. It's also what you get used to. Any amount of time in front of certain speakers will get you good results.
