Audio Systems: car stereo connection, car radio wiring, 2004 toyota sequoia

Question
QUESTION: My friend gave me a Toyota JBL car stereo 6 CD changer, model no. 86120-08140, reference no. CQ-ES8061Z, serial no. 631227 that was manufactured september 2002. My problem is I do not know which pin is for the power, ground, speakers, etc. so that I can not install or use it in my old reliable VW beetle which has very simple connectivity as it only has wires for power, neg. ground and speakers. I hope you have the answer to my problem. Thank you.

ANSWER: This model radio came from a 2002 Toyota Sienna van.

This page gives the wire colors that were used for the 2002 Sienna.

This car interface adapter plug may work with the JBL radio you have:

Check, also, www.installer.com for other adaptors and kits for Toyota and Volkswagen stuff.

You may have to check a few things out depending on the exact Radio plug configuration and the wiring scheme of the VW vehicle.

Good Luck,

QUESTION: I forgot tell you is that what my friend gave me was the car stereo alone, without the multi-colored wires in a harness that is inserted to the (female) socket of pins behind the stereo - and so I need to know which pin in the socket will I connect the wires as I do not know which pin is for power, ground, left speaker, right speaker, etc. By the way, I also forgot to tell you that the Toyota JBL 6-CD changer car stereo (manufactured in 2002) was pulled out from a 2004 Toyota Sequoia. Thank you very much.

Answer
Yes, all understood.  Answers remain the same.  You must determine the connector is used for that radio from the URLs given before and order the connector that is the right one.

So, look at your socket carefully and visually make sure you know which one will fit.  Then from the Sienna wiring you will know which wires went where, then translate that to the VW wiring.

But, you did not give me the VW car details so that is why you need to look it up.

The other way is for you to get the wiring manual for the Toyota Sienna (the 04 Sequoia may or may not be the same) and follow that but these manuals are not online and usually cost around $40 to $50 to purchase.
