Audio Systems: power, dual voice coil, 4 ohms

Question
i have 1 ma audio 18'in a suburban, and it is a sealed box.what size amp do i need?

Answer
Wow, this is a big winner. Why?  Because the sensitivity of these monsters is:

Sensitivity: 94.6dB

Which means you can drive them with small power, but if you put big power into them with heavy for big acoustic output. You can get some awesome performance from this subwoofer!

Thus, you have a range of amps that will work just fine with this single driver:

Minimum power:  100W
Maximum power:  1 KW (with reserve for best sound).

The impedance of this driver is 4 ohms and has a dual voice coil.  This means it should be wired in parallel giving a 2 ohm load to the amp.  The amp should be rated for continuous usage with a 2 ohm load.  The best kind of amplifier, in this case, since it is high power and you need the low impedance is a class D switching amp.  They are not too expensive and are very efficient.

Good Luck,
